An award and an ad space

I so wanted to make a scrap of Xofia's 1st birthday, and so wanted to make it in time for Scrapbook Saturday last Saturday. But what do you know, my scrappy muse is nowhere to be found. So I sat there, looking at the fancy embellishments I recently purchased, trying to knock some sense into the idleness of what could've been my scrappy-Saturday-ultimate-me-time. Nothing. That is just so sad when things happen like that. So I bloghop, and I was reminded that inspirations abound, not necessarily something that make me grab the crafting glue and scissors, but it did more than uplift my spirit.

I won an ad space!
Lookie here, I won me an ad space from MammaDawg's treasure trove of a blog. She's got PR 4, and she threw in a contest to celebrate that. Rockin' Hot Momma this girl is. This is big, because really, I have never been lucky in random contests like this. I have got to make me a 30x30 icon. :-)

I got an award!
Shimumsy, another cool mommy, gave me this Butterly Award for the coolest blog. I mean, my blog? Cool? Sheeesh! *blushing, blushing, BLUSHING*

Thanks, girl, this really touched me. Thanks a million for remembering my blog.

I will not name blogs here because I think all of you bloggy friends are cool and awesome and wonderful -- you make my life so much better. But if you wanna grab it and give it out, you're free to do so. ;)

Here are the rules:
~ Put the logo on your blog.
~ Add a link to the person who awarded you.
~ Nominate 10 other blogs.
~ Add links to those blogs on yours.
~ Leave a message for your nominees on their blogs.

What's inside my purse?

I remember {girl}fas had a challenge similar to this awhile back. That time, I was dead busy I wasn't able to do the fun challenge. This time around, Faery Rowan tagged me. I'm kindov hesitant but went with it anyway. It sure is fun embarrassing yourself :-P

Wait... are you sure you're ready for this? This purse of mine is such a mess, it's an embarrassment in itself hahaha!

Here are the rules. Find a safe, quiet place free of significant others, nosey meme makers, priests, nuns, all things religious and men in general. (If you're a guy, just reverse this process to fit males and tell us about your wallet, tool box, briefcase or metro sexual accessory.)

1. Dump the contents of your handbag in a pile.
2. Take a photo of your handbag and the contents.
3. Be brave and explain to your fellow bloggers what lurks inside the handbag.
4. Tag others who might want to embarrass themselves.
5. Answer these questions:

Describe the contents of your handbag.
What's the most important thing in your handbag?
What's the most embarrassing thing in your handbag?
What's the smallest thing in your handbag?
Is there anything illegal in your handbag?

Started by Mimi, Queen of Memes.

Here's a snapshot of the mess that is my purse:

Contains my company ID, some receipt, dessicant, shades and glasses, dental floss, bills, check book, kikay kit, and mini purse.

The mini purse contains:

compact powder, coin purse, cards, some money for paying the bills tomorrow. And no, it doesn't stop there. My kikay kit contains:

comb, two shades of Lip Candy lip gloss, cheek tint, Nivea lip conditioner, MK foundation, eyebrow pencil, Loreal concealer which I almost never use, and lastly, razor for slitting throats. Kidding. The razor is for wayward eyebrow hair. I don't pluck, hurts big time.

The most important thing in my handbag? The money, the check book. Gah, I'm so cheap. But let's face it, if I lose the money, what happens to the payables? I'm the budget officer of the household, it's important I keep everything within the budget, and to not lose the budget.

The most embarrassing thing in my handbag? Nothing in particular, but I didn't realize I bring lots of unnecessary things and stuff them in. I don't even use half of what's shown here. But a girl is a girl, and kikay things have to be within reach, right?

The smallest thing in my handbag? The dessicant. It's one of the manifestations of my being anal. I have to have a bag of dessicant in my purse to keep moisture (and consequently smell) away.

Anything illegal in my handbag? Has to be the razor. For all you know, I could go wacko and slit throats, you know :-P

Now, anyone who's up to embarrassing themselves, come grab the meme!

Friends are God's way of taking care of us

I got another BFF Gold Card from Constance of Sunny Side Up Foodie. Thanks, girl! Hugs to ya!

======================================

Like Maricris of Zen Ventures, I have a lot to thank blogging for all the new friends I have found along the way. Visiting my online friends never fail to warm up my day like a warm chocolate cup on a cold day. No matter what happens during the day, I know I always have something to look forward to when I open their blogs. Something pleasant, something interesting, something heartwarming, and yes, something intriguing. We talk through our blogs, and whether it's a glass of margarita or a cup of coffee you're holding in your hand, conversations flow endlessly. And like a time well-spent with friends, you close your browser feeling a lot better, a bit wiser, and very much thankful you found this treasure trove.

Thanks to Maricris for this award. Maricris warmed my soul from the very first comment she made in my blog. It's not everyday you feel like that to anybody. I think she really is like that. She gives out a certain Zen to those fortunate enough to meet her. Maricris is also into etsy and something handmade. I urge you to visit her Etsy Store if you haven't yet, and drool over the beautiful creations she's made. To tell you that this gal is artistic, is an understatement. Go check!

So anyhoo, for the award, here are the rules:

1. The winner can put the logo on his/her blog.
2. Link the person you received your award from.
3. Nominate at least 7 other blogs.

4. Put links of those blogs on yours.

5. Leave a message on the blogs of the people you’ve nominated

I also got another one from Maricris. Makes me think if I really am worthy of all these. *sheepish grin*

And because I =heart= you, my blogger friends, you are equally receiving both awards from me. Linky love to you:

Come and grab 'em! :-)

I am one lucky girl

No so long ago, I actually had second thoughts blogging for the world to see/read me. I did not quite expect I'd be making friends every single day. The opportunities of meeting friends from all over are amazingly endless. Over the same week, I got three friendship tags. How amazing could the week go?

Why do we need friends?

For this beautiful poem, I thank Constance of Sunny Side Up Foodie and Mommy Ruby of Pinay Mommy Online. Thank you, girls! This really touched me.

Faeryrowan, Caffeinated Muse, divawearsnada, bottoms-up, Sheila, mckhoii, and chitgoks -- go guys, spread the friendship :-)

We need friends for many reasons,
all throughout the season.

We need friends to comfort us when we are sad,
and to have fun with us when we are glad.

We need friends to give us good advice.
We need someone we can count on,and treat us nice.

We need friends to remember us one we have passed
Sharing memories that will always last.

Dating 101

image from http://www.naturalsciences.org/

Dating. Contrary to what most believed and continue to believe, I am not an expert on the field. Believe me though, I am no prude, that much I can tell you LOL I'm a late-bloomer by choice. I never started dating until when I was 20. I had to finish college first, that was the agreement me and my father shook hands on. *Yeah, ammagoodgurl*

Thanks, Mharms, for the tag! :-)

Players: Ozzy’s Mom | Me,Myself + 2 | Kidd Designs | Fun.Fierce.Fabulous | Me and Mine | Little Peanut | Pea in a Pod | Creative in Me | Notable Bistro | Sugarmagnolias |Around the World | Eds Mommy Life | My Precious Niche | Just Me.. Eds | Pinaywife | Mhar’s Display | Purpled Sky | YOUR BLOG

1. When was your first kiss and where?
..::.. I was twenty, by the door, it was a goodnight kiss :P

2. When was your first real relationship and how long did it last?
..::.. I'd have to say nothing was real until when I met my now-husband. We're on our 8th year of togetherness now.

3. What age were you allowed to date?
..::.. Hahay, 20! LOL

4. What’s the craziest thing you did (for love) when you were a teenager?
..::.. I did not date when I was a teenager. I had to get pass the teenage years to be able to date.

5. How long was your longest relationship and what’s the secret?
..::.. Eight years. We complement and compliment each other. Is that saying much to ya? :-))

6. How long did you date before you decided to settle down?
..::.. five years

7. How did you know he was the ONE?
..::.. This was an answer I gave to a friend when he asked me a similar question:

for starters, i never had a suitor who's as persistent (5 years wooing) as he is; i have learned that the man is of character and principles and intellect and humor; i have never known anybody who's as patience and tenacity are like his; he knows my moods and how to handle them perfectly--i'm a gemini--i think that speaks a lot about me; he spoils me silly in whatever ways imaginable; he loves my somewhat dysfunctional family; gives me enough room to commit mistakes and learn from them; he allows me to be whatever i wanna be (mind you, sometimes i wanna be a gymnast or diva or synchronized swimmer, or Xena... ;P get the pic?); he doesn't say all the right words but his is the most warm and sincere and loving; he treats his female family members like royalty -- and that tells you a lot about how a guy treats all other girls in his life; i can't imagine living this life with anybody else other than him; and i can see myself growing old with the man.

8. Now, at what age will you allow your kids(s) to date?
..::..At 20! Because really, if they consider this late, I'd tell them they won't be missing much. Dating in teenage years is overrated, and they might end up messing up their lives.

9. When it comes to your kids dating, will you be a cool parent or a strict parent?
..::.. My gut feel about people is rarely wrong. What I'm saying here is that I'd be whatever I'd be depending on how I feel towards the people they're dating.

10. What piece of advice can you give to your child when they start dating?
..::.. Enjoy the experience, know yourself more on the process, know your limitations, never forget the lessons learned in every experience, and above all, don't settle down when you have as much as 0.01% doubt about the whole thing. Oh, this is gonna be a veeery long lecture session.

Passing this fun tag to Faery Rowan, Shiela, and Catherine. Enjoy, girls! :-)

I kick ass!!!

Kick Ass Blogger Award

Yep, that's me. I am a kick-ass blogger. Thanks to Faeryrowan and MammaDawg (who equally kick butts) for the recognition. No, you're wrong, I did not bribe or intimidate them into giving me this, it's my charm. My irresistible charm. Really. :-P Seriously, MammaDawg, will you ever run out of brilliant ideas? :-)

And I happen to know a lot of bloggers who kick ass as well. Without further ado, allow me to roll the credits, in no particular order:
  1. Pinay Mommy - You're sheer strength is an inspiration to us all. Here's hoping and praying that you remain strong no matter what.
  2. Sealed Reservoir - You are the only girl I know who's able to tame my good friend. Good job, girl! ;-)
  3. BoTtOmS.uP - Hey, you know you kick ass by simply being you! Darn, girl, I'd still snag you if I could. Love ya, yin! Really, get back to blogging. You're like taking off a portion of my oxygen with your blogging absence.
  4. Wat da wat daddy - You inspire me, watda daddy. I'd do anything to have a dad like you. And with that noble project? 'Nuff said.
  5. MammaDawg - Of course, you kick ass! I especially like the done-conforming-with-other-moms" attitude, and of course, you crack me up! I check your blog, read the early posts, and I cannot help but relate and laugh out loud. I won't read everything at once, though, careful to leave a bit of that surprise for the next visit.
I know more who kick ass, but unlike faery, I'm sticking to the rules. That fairy-girl, btw, just bends the rules because she has so much love to give. Not brown-nosing here, just facts.

So anyway, passing this on...

Do you know any bloggers that kick ass?

Maybe they've got incredible, original content. Or they're overflowing with creativity. Is it someone that helps you become a better blogger? Or a bloggy friend you know you can count on? Or maybe it's someone who simply inspires you to be a better person... or someone else who sends you to the floor, laughing your ass off.

Whatever the reason may be, I'm sure you know at least a couple of bloggers that kick ass. Well...why not tell 'em so?

LOVE ON 'EM

Purpledsky and 7 things about her

I got another tag from faeryrowan; and this time, I'm supposed to tell the blogosphere 7 facts about me; facts that I haven't mentioned anywhere in this blog. Whew!

Here are the rules:
A. List these rules on your blog.
B. Share 7 facts about yourself on your blog.
C. Tag 7 people at the end of your post by leaving their names as well as links to their blogs.

Now, here are 7 things about me that I believe I haven't written in any of my blogposts yet.
  1. I pack a mean punch. A friend once wondered if I really were a girl.
  2. I once worked as a sales executive for Toshiba notebooks. Didn't last a year.
  3. I *hate* human resource work. Never really utilized my college education.
  4. I was there when my grandmother died. I saw how life slowly left her limp body.
  5. I used to not like pasta until I made them myself. I believe I made them a lot tastier :-P
  6. I am married to the most humble UP Law alumni there is in this planet. Yes, I am a lawyer's wife. :-P
  7. My real name is Bernadette, after my grandfather's Bernardo; which means bold bear.
Now, I wanna know 7 more things about shimumsy, sheila, darlene, miss write, chef francis, caffeinated-muse, and rosilie.

The Best Gift Ever

Promise, I'm doing my tags, starting now :-) And because I have no automated way of knowing/checking those tags I missed, can you, pretty please, remind me if I missed yours? :-)

Anyway, here's one beautiful tag this morning from shimumsy. Thanks, girl, this really touched me.

Be sure to read on till the end of the story. You'll never regret it.

***Start Copy Here***
Friendly Rules:
1. Simply copy the inspirational and in the end write down the lesson you have learned out from this.
2. Put your own blog name and link. Pass or tag this to your friends to inspire them.
3. Start copy from "Begin Copy" until "End Copy" to your blog.

A young man was getting ready to graduate from college. For many months he had admired a beautiful sports car in a dealer's showroom. And knowing his father could well afford it, he told him that was all he wanted.

As Graduation Day approached, the young man awaited signs that his father had purchased the car. Finally, on the morning of his graduation his father called him into his private study. His father told him how proud he was to have such a fine son, and told him how much he loved him.He handed his son a beautiful wrapped gift box.Curious, but somehow disappointed, the young man opened the box and found a lovely, leather-bound Bible, with the young man's name embossed in gold.Angrily, he raised his voice to his father and said, "With all your money you give me a Bible?"And stormed out of the house, living the Bible.

Many years passed and the young man was very successful in business. He had a beautiful home and wonderful family, but realized his father was very old and thought perhaps he should go to him. He had not seen him since that graduation day. Before he could make arrangements, he received a telegram telling him his father had passed away, and willed all of his possesions to his son.He needed to come home immediately and take care of his things. When he arrived at his father's house, sudden sadness and regret filled his heart. He begun to search through his father's important papers and saw the still new Bible, just as he had left it years ago. With tears, he opened the Bible and begun to turn the pages. His father had carefully underlined a verse, Matt. 7:11, "And if ye, being evil know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more shall your Heavenly Father which is in heaven, give to those who ask Him?"

As he reads those words, a car key dropped from the back of the Bible. It had a tag with the dealer's name, the same dealer who had the sports car he had desired. On the tag was the date of his graduation, and the words...PAID IN FULL.
How many times do we miss God's blessing because they are not packaged as we expected?

I trust you enjoyed this. Pass it on to others. Do not spoil what you have by desiring what you have not; but remember that what you now have was once among the things you only hoped for...
PLS. SEND THIS TO ATLEAST FIVE PEOPLE SO AS TO LET THIS GREAT LESSON FLOW AROUND.
***END COPY***

Like the young man, I'm guilty of overlooking the real blessing just because I was quick to judge by what I saw. Impatient girl that I am, I cannot guarantee that I will always have the time to wait until the real gift will surface under those wrappings. The husband is the patient one. Notice the tagline of this blog? He waits, I whine. And I am not ashamed to admit that his kind of patience continue to be an inspiration and an aspiration of mine. :-)

I'm passing this beautiful tag to:

soreal, faeryrowan, caffeinated-muse, constance and dabawenya.

Lakbayan: How much of the PI have you been to?

Ugh. I so need to travel. I have destinations (as if daghan!!!) mapped out for the rest of the year, but hey, a grade this low? I gotta do something about it! Or maybe Cebu is just so good a place that I want to explore my own province first, the rest of the Philippine Islands can wait. I think that reasoning is better. Don't you? :-P

I've been tagged by Mckhoii. And I'm bookmarking the Lakbayan site to update (my grade) everytime I go somewhere in the future ;-)

My Lakbayan grade is C-!

How much of the Philippines have you visited? Find out at Lakbayan!

Daddy's corner

Aeirin tagged me. For the tag, I'd be blogging about my husband. Surprisingly though, with this new blog of mine, I don't remember talking about him (or did I?). Motherhood is a totally new adventure for me and my blogging thoughts are somehow consumed by it. Doesn't mean I love him less these days. If any of you here knew me or my husband, there's no way for me to go but love him more and more each day. I couldn't, for the life of me, imagine my life if I wasn't with him.

In my two previous private blogs though, I talked about him almost every week. From there, I culled out a few. Testaments of how I love this person I came to call as "Langga" or "Daddy". Everytime I read these lines again, those feelings come sweeping me off as boldly as they were fresh. And I have come to realize that it matters not how crazy my world has become, there will always be one constant inspiration to keep on living. Him. He never falters, never questions his love for me NO MATTER WHAT. gets me into thinking that somewhere, somehow, I must've done something good to deserve this.

written 5.18.2004

18. that's our day. our number. we've been together for 41 months. i gotta congratulate myself =p thank you langga, for being so so sooooo super patient with this crazy, stubborn and unreasonable girl that is me. thank you for all the love, the attention, the fun, the fights, the logic, the sweetness, and more love =)

thank you for those days that i thought everything's beyond repair, i see calm and serenity in your eyes. thank you for tucking me to bed everytime i'm too tired to do it myself. thank you for being so patient with my sapot whenever you wake me up coz you need to go already. thank you for trying your best to cook for me whenever i don't feel like it.

thank you for accepting the scarred person that i am. thank you for making me believe in myself and thank you for appreciating my efforts as well. thank you for loving my family like your own.
thank you for listening and sticking it through the end with me. thank you for the warm hugs and soothing words. thank you for being the bestest of best friend to me. thank you for accepting my yet another group of unconventional friends. thank you for respecting my choices.

written 5.02.2006 (should've been my vow had the church allowed us a customized one)

Anthony Vincent, you cushion me from the monsters who are as familiar as the lines on my palm. You tease my worries away. Your words make me braver when things are shaken from its edges. You are a gentle breeze that heals misunderstandings and emotions gone awry. You are the understanding eyes when I throw my opinion like confetti over thrashed and torn fallen leaves. You are the warmth when I move into your arms in a full embrace. You are love; and you stay even when passion, hope and honesty fails. For that and everything else besides, I vow, before God and men, to love you in sickness or health, for richer or poorer, 'till death parts us.

1) Copy from {Start Copy Here} to {End Copy Here}.

2) Blog Brag about your husband - yes, the father of your child/ren. As I’ve said singles may also join by bragging about their own fathers, or even grandfathers. It doesn’t matter! Of course, Daddy bloggers themselves may also join, but you have to blog about your fathers and not about yourselves, deal? Okay. Good.

3) Add your blog in the masterlist below linking to the post that you just made. Or if you wish, do it as how I’ve done it in my other blog by adding a new page.

4) Leave some love here. Yup. Here. Thanks!

5) Let’s not forget Peppermint Creative for the corner border I used for the badge.

6) Lastly, let’s help each other by copying and updating the list of participants in your post. Come and visit once in a while for the benefit of the late comers who have also joined this meme.

How are you feeling today?

And another tag! Got the tag from Pinay Mommy. Like her, and I think most women would say "amen" to this, it's hard for me to describe how I am feeling with just 6 words. Yet, here I am, trying :-)

Rules:

1. List 6 things that describe yourself today.
2. Add your blog to the list. Feel free to add all your other blogs.
3. Tag other online friends you know.

*1. Full! >>>>>>> I just ate a plateful of spaghetti and cake after having a full lunch of rice, dinuguan, and 2 empanada. It's getting harder to breathe.
*2. Excited! >>>>>>> To go home and see baby. It's about this time of the day that I get like this.
*3. Going down with something! >>>>>>> I kept sneezing. Must be common colds.
*4. Cold! >>>>>>> The A/C is at it again.
*5. Tired! >>>>>>> The eyes, that's what. It's no joke staring at a monitor the whole day.
*6. Relieved! >>>>>>> For finally figuring out why I can't find a certain file in the folder we're currently working on.
